UncaBuddha:
Well, sometimes you stick your nose where it shouldn't be stuck.  I emailed this guy who's the "president of the Border Mtn Bike Asso." about going for a ride.  He offered to show me some trail (where I'd ridden last time I was here).  I called him on Saturday afternoon and he got a kitchen pass.

We met in the late afternoon.  He is VERY tall, maybe 6' 6", and lean.  His legs, between hip and knee, were three feet long.  His big bike looked bigger because he was carrying camping gear in custom bags that fit into the frame.
He rode me into the dirt.  Then we rode some more.  There were very few rest stops.  He wanted to show me some new trail.  (He is racing the Arizona Trail 300 next weekend.) We went up to the top of a pass.... and kept going... farther and farther away from the car and hotel and rest and beer.

I had a BLAST.  After 2 hours, almost dark, we made it back. 2000 calories on my HRM.
David was going back up the hill using his headlamp to camp out for the night.
Here's his blog: http://fastmtnbiker33w.wordpress.com/
Notice his racing resume.  Notice his wife's racing resume.
This guy was the real deal and really nice about my "fat 50" fatigue!
I feel like someone hit me all over with a ball peen hammer today.  I realize, looking at the hotel room El Paso Visitor's Guide, that his picture is on the cover.  Sheesh...
Pics to follow!

That's cool.  I'd be dead, but you sure got an awesome story and ride out of it.
