Otter Creek Access Fees

<< < (2/5) > >>

nick:
yep i have bought one from Indiana state parks for the past couple years even though i live in ky.  very nice to be able to get in the parks i go to with one pass (new harmony, obannon, brown county).  still i had to look up what dnr stood for.  scales lake, in indiana,  charges by the biker ,2bucks, when you ride through (mtb parking lot is outside the gate) or by the car,2bucks, when you drive through.  we where driving through and flipping around until they told us no more and tried to charge me how many people where in my car.  so then i just bought their season 1 park pass for 15bucks for the year.  alot different than 100 still.

I add to that list of places to use my DNR pass Ferdinand and Versailles.

I have stated before, I loved Otter Creek and have rode there a bunch, but with O'Bannon offering so much more and just over 1/2 hour closer for me, I don't see me passing it up with the prices that high.

scottm:
I hope the new set of park managers and Fish and Wildlife realize the current fees are going to lose them revenue.

There are probably many of us that were waiting for Otter to open again because it was such a great place, but these fees are unreasonable.

I have ridden many places and always gauged them on how they compared to Otter.  My best memories of biking are all at Otter.  It was always the best of everything to me.

I miss Otter, mountain biking and all the friends I made riding there.   :'(

Chris Ward:
I plan to go over ther intially to see what it like and to support efforts being made by KYMBA. I think if they see we are willing to help that price will come down.  If prices don't come down by the end of the season I will be done with it, I will be spending my time at O'bannon.   I don't plan to buy season pass.   That price has to come down..it should be $5 a day total for entrance and mountain biking.

At $10 a day they should be taking care of everything, there should be no need for volunteer help at that price.  I feel like that money has to be going to things that mountain bikers don't really use.

Scott...You should conside checking out O'bannon.  It is more rugged than Otter Creek and boast excellent views of the Ohio river, Blue River and Indian Creek.  There are countless rock out croppings, and close to 6000 ft of climbing (as measured by gps) which makes for some fun downhills. We have 30 miles of trails and 26,000 acres there.

SuperJETT:
I'm the same as Chris, I'll probably go check it out but since I pretty much have to drive past Waverly and Duffield to get there, I doubt I can justify the extra time/expense to go more than once or twice.

Honestly, this is par for the course from my point of view in Kentucky.  I have ridden standup jetskis for the past 19 years and in KY I have to pay ~$40/year for registration PLUS property tax on it, PLUS if I want to launch at Taylorsville Lake I have to pay a daily launch fee.  I've never understood how they could justify adding the launch fees when we already pay about 3 times as much as any other state YEARLY and that money is supposed to go toward maintaining launch facilities and law enforcement.  The high fees for Otter Creek just fall in line with that mentality IMO.
