Otter Creek Access Fees

The only positive I see so far is that it may encourage more people to come out for trail maintenance if they can ride afterward for free. Still no word on benefits for volunteers from Fish and Wildlife. They do realize that their volunteer base will disappear if they charge volunteers on project days.
Otter Creek is being seen as the first pay to play trail system with this new pricing. It could change based on the number of passes they sell the first year.
I will probably go with the annual pass this first year since Otter Creek is literally 7 minutes from the office and 20 minutes from home. It's in my best interest that the park stay open. If not then all of my efforts will go toward getting new trails on Ft Knox.

I don't have much of a sentimental connection with Otter Creek, so it's unlikely I'll make it down there much. I usually work at Waverly and Cherokee, but I'm sure I could squeeze in an OC trail day now and then if entrance is waived.
I didn't get to ride the park before it closed. I was kind of poor and gas was expensive after I moved back down here from MN. I guess gas is still expensive, Otter Creek is far, and I'm still a bit cheap.

No word on that as of this morning. I'll press the issue in the next few days.

One thing to keep in mind with this topic is there is a big difference between a park system and fish and wildlife. Park systems tax everyone to keep the parks going and everyone has the opportunity to use them. Fish and Wildlife get zero state tax dollars. Their entire budget is based on user fees such as hunting and fishing lic. Even non sporting people can benefit from this with hiking at Wildlife Management Areas, going to Salato in Frankfort, etc. The way to get the fees down is to encourage more people to get involved with supporting Fish and Wildlife.
