FS 29er vs. Hardtail????
(1/1)
lovetheville:
Currently riding a 10 year Schwinn Moab 1 hardtail that has been a great bike, but its getting old and breaking down quite a bit. Its time to get something new. Mostly riding around Louisville, Cherokee, Waverly, Briar Hill and Brown County if I'm lucky. Can't make up my mind on whether I should get a full suspension 29er or hardtail. Looking to spend around $2K, obviously can get better components and options for a HT in that price range, just wondering if I'm going to regret not throwing down another $500 for a FS. Looking to see what some locals think. Cheers.
LaMontagne.

Spent my coin on a GIANT Anthem X 29r. Check the reviews. Currently its one the best bangs for the buck. Rolls like a 29r, handles like a 26". Best of both words. Call 270-684-7377 for good price. Good luck with your decision and enjoy!

I just bought a Giant XTC 2 29er. I, like you came from an older 26" bike that was no comparison. I have posted earlier in another post that everything the mags say about 29er's is correct. The handlebars on my XTC are quite wide almost 32 inches. It does roll faster and it will carry alot of speed down and up a hill or creek bed, it is very noticeable compared to a 26". The ride is much much much smoother than a HT 26. There are two cons to the 29er in my eyes, without spending more money to drop the bikes weight you lose that quick acceleration of a 26er and I have lost the whippy feel of the 26er. Corners aren't near as much fun. Maybe if I shorten the bars some of that quickness will return. As a whole I am pleased with my hardtail 29er.

Thanks for the advise gents. I ended up with a 2012 Specialized Epic Comp 29er FSR. Total sweetness. My average speed has gone up 3 mph with the new rig. The full-suspension with Brain shock is unreal. The statement, you don't know what you have been missing couldn't be more true. Can't wait to ride the Brown County Breakdown in October on this thing.
