Wilderness loop at Cherokee Park. Found what appears to be the battery cover of a Sigma cyclocomputer sensor.

Great work on the Waterfall Loop!

Yesterday I rode the loop twice in both directions and you guys are doing some great work down there. I really like how you integrated, and sometimes enhanced, the natural rock formations into the trail. I'd see something going one direction and think to myself "Ooooh, that's gonna be fun to jump off of coming the other way!" :)

As much as I enjoy going 20 mph on a smooth trail like Waverly, I also love the feeling of accomplishment one gets from conquering rocks, roots, and rough stuff. You guys have created a good balance so far.

Can't wait to see how the rest of the trail system turns out!

FYI, there is an Olmsted volunteer event at Seneca this coming Saturday. Unfortunately I will be out of town but here are the details:

Volunteer Event: Seneca Park
June 16, 2012 09:00 AM - June 16, 2012 12:00 PM

Celebrate Spring by coming out to preserve Louisville’s green spaces! Gloves, tools and refreshments provided. Dress for weather and working outdoors. Meet in parking lot near the Seneca Park basketball courts on Pee Wee Reese Road, just past Cherokee Gardens.

This is perfect timing! I'm going to be at Nolin this weekend and had no idea there was a trail system. Any tips on finding the trailheads for someone who's never been?

Thanks!

Cherokee/Seneca Park / Tree down

There's a tree blocking the trail on Wilderness, shortly before the last uphill that takes you to the bench. Not sure of the protocol to inform Olmsted.

I can do Saturday or Sunday. It looks like there's already a work day scheduled for Saturday at No Net. That gas-powered trimmer that Olmsted has is the ticket but I know only a few people are certified to use it.

The last cleanup I was involved in had a great turnout. Unfortunately we got soaked by a rain-out that night. :)

Wilderness Loop is getting pretty overgrown and I think it's time to set up a cleanup day. How do we get Olmsted involved with their fancy tools?

Sustainable doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be easy, the switch back will be worthy of the No Net name  ;D

Put some really jagged rocks below it. We can call Schooner South. :P

So are we going to change the name to With Net? No Net (Required)? ;)

I'll try to come help with the new vision. I never did conquer it backwards. Maybe there's still time for me to hurt myself trying to get up that one chunky section.

General / IMBA vehicle?
« on: October 18, 2011, 10:09:44 AM »
Monday night I was passing the McDonald's at the corner of Taylorsville and Bardstown Rd at 11:00pm and noticed what appeared to be the Subaru IMBA Trail Care Crew vehicle. Looking at their schedule it appears they're in Lexington from 10/20 - 10/23. Anyone else happen to see them around town? There were at least three bikes on the roof rack so I wonder if they'll ride any of our local dirt.

I was out there last year and ran into a guy with a chainsaw who was dragging a tarp out of the woods. I realize that sounds like a scene from a horror movie but after speaking with him he's just a guy who lives in the neighborhood who is a biker and has adopted the trails. He said he never sees anyone else maintaining them. Didn't get his name but it wouldn't surprise me if it's the same guy. I haven't been out there since April but this thread makes me want to check it out again.

General / Road bike fit
« on: September 23, 2011, 04:41:34 PM »
After doing all the measurements suggested on the competitive cyclist website I've come to the conclusion that I'm an oddball. In a nutshell, due to my absurdly long inseam relative to my height, the recommended seat tube comes in at around 59cm, whereas the optimal top tube is about 55cm. Nice.

Seeing as how most bikes in my category (large) have seat and top tubes at relatively the same length (usually 58ish cm), I seem to have two options: 1) pick a frame with the closest seat tube and go with a shorter stem and/or higher bars or 2) go with the optimal top tube on a frame that is potentially too small and jack up the seat height or extend the stem.

I have a feeling that one of the options is going to be more desirable from a balance/efficiency perspective, but I don't know enough about riding on the road to make the call. I'm not racing or anything; just have a desire to build a decent road bike for some longer rides and overall fitness when I can't hit the trails.

General / Carry a multi-tool!
« on: August 25, 2011, 12:49:28 PM »
Was riding solo last night at Cherokee and came across a group of three guys at the beginning of No Net. One of the bikes was sitting upside down, wheels up in the air, which is the telltale sign of "something is screwed up." I asked the guys if they needed help and one replied "You have a chain tool?", to which I responded "Yep." His followup question: "You know how to use it?" ;)

The poor guy had mangled one of the chain links on his brand new bike and in a few minutes we were able to doctor it up and get him back on the trail. There's nothing worse than walking when you want to be riding!
