Wilderness loop at Cherokee Park. Found what appears to be the battery cover of a Sigma cyclocomputer sensor.

Cherokee/Seneca Park / Tree down

There's a tree blocking the trail on Wilderness, shortly before the last uphill that takes you to the bench. Not sure of the protocol to inform Olmsted.

Cherokee/Seneca Park / Wilderness cleanup

Wilderness Loop is getting pretty overgrown and I think it's time to set up a cleanup day. How do we get Olmsted involved with their fancy tools?

General / IMBA vehicle?
« on: October 18, 2011, 10:09:44 AM »
Monday night I was passing the McDonald's at the corner of Taylorsville and Bardstown Rd at 11:00pm and noticed what appeared to be the Subaru IMBA Trail Care Crew vehicle. Looking at their schedule it appears they're in Lexington from 10/20 - 10/23. Anyone else happen to see them around town? There were at least three bikes on the roof rack so I wonder if they'll ride any of our local dirt.

General / Road bike fit
« on: September 23, 2011, 04:41:34 PM »
After doing all the measurements suggested on the competitive cyclist website I've come to the conclusion that I'm an oddball. In a nutshell, due to my absurdly long inseam relative to my height, the recommended seat tube comes in at around 59cm, whereas the optimal top tube is about 55cm. Nice.

Seeing as how most bikes in my category (large) have seat and top tubes at relatively the same length (usually 58ish cm), I seem to have two options: 1) pick a frame with the closest seat tube and go with a shorter stem and/or higher bars or 2) go with the optimal top tube on a frame that is potentially too small and jack up the seat height or extend the stem.

I have a feeling that one of the options is going to be more desirable from a balance/efficiency perspective, but I don't know enough about riding on the road to make the call. I'm not racing or anything; just have a desire to build a decent road bike for some longer rides and overall fitness when I can't hit the trails.

General / Carry a multi-tool!
« on: August 25, 2011, 12:49:28 PM »
Was riding solo last night at Cherokee and came across a group of three guys at the beginning of No Net. One of the bikes was sitting upside down, wheels up in the air, which is the telltale sign of "something is screwed up." I asked the guys if they needed help and one replied "You have a chain tool?", to which I responded "Yep." His followup question: "You know how to use it?" ;)

The poor guy had mangled one of the chain links on his brand new bike and in a few minutes we were able to doctor it up and get him back on the trail. There's nothing worse than walking when you want to be riding!

Trails / Unauthorized trail work
« on: July 15, 2011, 12:24:46 PM »
Is weed whacking considered trail work and thereby prohibited in Cherokee? I like to ride the lower trail that sort of begins at Hogan's fountain and last night my arms got ripped to shreds from the thorns. I'm not sure that trail gets a whole lot of traffic so I'd clean it up myself if permitted.

Cherokee/Seneca Park / golfers
« on: June 27, 2011, 12:40:46 PM »
Anyone ever feel like they've been deliberately targeted by golfers on the golf course loop? It has happened to me twice, most recently on Saturday with a ball hitting the trees about 10 feet above me. Hopefully he just really shanked it. :D

Gear / Tire rec for Stan's ZTR Arch ?
« on: June 13, 2011, 03:38:57 PM »
Recently tacoed my original rear rim and had On Your Left build me up a replacement using a ZTR Arch. I'd like to experiment with tubeless so I've bought all the required stuff from Stan's (tape, nipple, sealant). Any recommendations on rubber? The Nevegal I have on there now is b*tch to get on with a tube. I suppose I could always reuse it but I know nothing about tire beads and their compatibility with tubeless.

I ride pretty much what the rest of you in Louisville ride... Cherokee, Waverly, Briar Hill, et al.

Thanks!
